In typical VGF fashion, gamespot.com recently reported that Xbox 360: The Official Magazine has world-exclusive info on the next installment of the Call of Duty series.
Call of Duty: World at War is the title and the game will return to the old WWII formula, but this time it will focus on the Pacific Theater.
That's right, the series is venturing to the land of the rising sun by focusing on battles between the American and Japanese forces.
However, the new title will also delve into the Russian army's iron curtain as it falls on Berlin.
It seems as though Call of Duty 4's magnificent multiplayer interface will return to "World at War" and will include some additional perks, vehicles, and a new "leader system."
The article also confirmed that the new title will include a 4-player co-op mode via Xbox Live or 2 split-screen consoles.
Also, there will be new tactics characteristic of the Japanese army such as ambushes, surprise flanks, etc.
No word on any additional information for other consoles although it is likely to be available for the Playstation 3 as well.
Although this is all fine and dandy, I think Call of Duty 4 was such a great game because it brought combat from the history books to today's news.
That was revolutionary and refreshing to see from the series, but now they are returning to the same, tired genre that gamers are just plain sick of.
Am I right?
For me, this just feels like another "Medal of Honor: Rising Sun" and I am tired of playing the same game, with the same weapons, and the same cities over and over again.
What do you think?

If it didn't have the Call of Duty name on the case then I wouldn't give it a second look. As you said, same old. No matter how amazing it is I still want to play something different. If I want tactical WWII then I'll get Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway next in a couple of weeks.
A bit dissapointed really. :(
I agree they should have kept the modern warfare going on and is it true there will be no sprinting
thumbs down .
